Whether you are looking to advance your firearms skills, becoming an instructor, or hitting the range with local Hudson Valley Veterans, you have come to the right place. All of the instructors for the Veterans Sportsmens Association are Vetted and certified by either Civilian Training Organizations, Law Enforcement Training Organizations, or Military Combat Arms Schools. Most of our Instructors are also either Combat Veterans or Law Enforcement personnel. Join us for training events, social activities, and enjoy a wide variety of learning opportunities.

NYS PISTOL PERMIT COURSE
NYS PISTOL PERMIT CLASS
The New York State Pistol Permit Class – also known as the “Concealed Carry Permit Class” or the “Firearms Safety Course“, is required to be completed before applying for a pistol permit in New York State starting on 1 September 2022, and also required for recertification in some jurisdictions. The VSA will begin offering this 16 class starting Fall 2022.

New York State Pistol Permit Course
New York State 18 Hour Concealed Carry Firearms Safety Course. Attending this course will allow you to apply for a pistol permit in accordance with the NYS Pistol Law effective 1 September 2022. This is a 16 hour course, plus two hours of range time. You can also use this course to renew your NYS permit in jurisdictions that require the 16 Hour course for permit renewal. Contact us about class requirements, course location and class registration. There is very demand for this class, and each class is strictly limited to 30 students.
The course fee of $275 includes firearms, ammunition, safety equipment, and the full two days of required classroom training as well as the required range qualifications. Military, Veterans, Law Enforcement and First Responders receive a discounted fee of $250

NRA BASIC PISTOL CLASS
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation
NRA BASIC PISTOL INSTRUCTOR CLASS
Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearm handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by the NRA Certified Training Counselor.
NRA BASIC RIFLE CLASS
This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.
NRA BASIC RIFLE INSTRUCTOR CLASS
Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearm handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by the NRA Certified Training Counselor.
NRA BASIC SHOTGUN CLASS
This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target.
NRA BASIC SHOTGUN INSTRUCTOR CLASS
Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearm handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by the NRA Certified Training Counselor.
NRA RANGE SAFETY OFFICER CLASS
The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification.
NRA CHIEF RANGE SAFETY OFFICER CLASS
The NRA Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification.
NRA PERSONAL PROTECTION INSIDE THE HOME
This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and provides information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearm handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by the NRA Certified Training Counselor.

This course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home.

This course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home.
NRA DEFENSIVE PISTOL COURSE
This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly and with confidence.

In the NRA Instructor CCW course, instructors will teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense.

VSA HANDGUN OPTICS COURSE
Whether you’re considering to place optics on your handgun for self defense or target practice, this course will take you through the selection, mounting, and usage of optics for the handgun operator.
VSA BASIC PRECISION RIFLE COURSE
This Basic course is designed for the "novice" shooter looking to learn & sharpen fundamental precision shooting skills. Students will learn to zero their rifle and successfully engage targets up to 300 Meters. We offer up to date and practical training utilizing unequaled facilities with combat proven and competitively accomplished cadre.
VSA ADVANCED PRECISION RIFLE COURSE
This advanced course is designed for the experienced shooter looking to build on fundamental precision shooting skills at distances beyond 300 Meters. We offer up to date and practical training utilizing unequaled facilities with combat proven and competitively accomplished cadre.
VSA INTRODUCTION TO SHOTGUN
Students of this class will learn fundamental shotgun ownership skills including loading, unloading, safe storage, maintenance, and basic use. This class is for new shotgun owners.
VSA DEFENSIVE SHOTGUN COURSE
Students of this class will learn fundamental defensive shotgun ownership skills including engaging a threat, moving through a structure, aiming at a threat, and using a shotgun for self defense. This class is for new shotgun owners who may use a Shotgun for self defense.
VSA BASIC CARBINE OPERATORS COURSE
This is our basic carbine operators course which covers basic field cleaning for rifles, and basic tactical employment of a rifle. Students of this class will learn fundamental carbine ownership skills including loading, unloading, safe storage, maintenance, and basic use. This class is for new carbine rifle owners.
VSA ADVANCED CARBINE OPERATORS COURSE
This is our advanced carbine operators course which covers advanced tactical employment of a rifle, multiple engagement drills for targets at varying distances, engaging moving targets and teaches students various move, shoot and communicate skills.
VSA BASIC PISTOL OPERATORS COURSE
This is our basic pistol operators course which covers basic field cleaning for pistols, and basic tactical employment of a handgun. Students of this class will learn fundamental handgun ownership skills including loading, unloading, safe storage, maintenance, and basic use. This class is for new handgun owners.
UTAH CONCEALED CARRY
This is the official UTAH Concealed Firearm Permit course as taught by NRA and UTAH BCI certified instructors. Currently the Utah CCW Permit is the MOST HONORED permit in all the nation, valid in 33 states and counting. 100% of the profits for this class go towards the Veterans Sportsmens Association.
