THE VETERANS SPORTSMENS ASSOCIATION HAS TEAMED UP WITH TEAM RIVER RUNNER TO ESTABLISH THE TEAM RIVER RUNNER HUDSON VALLEY (TRR HV) NY CHAPTER 

Team River Runner's Mission

To provide all veterans and their families an opportunity to find health, healing, community purpose, and new challenges through adventure and adaptive paddle sports!

WAPPINGERS CREEK WATER DERBY

Aquatic Explorers Club Event

The annual Wappingers Creek Water Derby, which was started in 1970 by WWII Veterans, is an 8 mile canoe and kayak race down the scenic Wappingers Creek which is hosted each year by the Veterans Sportsmens Association and the Aquatic Explorers Scuba Club. The next race will be on 25 April 2026.

THE 2026 BOAT RIDE FOR DUTCHESS COUNTY VETERANS is SCHEDULED FOR 16 MAY 2026

5th Annual Boat Ride for Dutchess County Veterans

This will be the 5th Annual Boat Ride for Dutchess County Veterans. This event will take place on Armed Forces Day and is a free event for Dutchess County Veterans and their guests. Participants will travel from Whites Hudson River Marina at 15 Point St, New Hamburg, New York 12590 to West Point in a flotilla of various boats and finishes with a free dinner by the water. Registration will be set up in March. The event starts at 1000 hrs and ends at 1700 hrs.

1st Annual Kayak Event for Dutchess County Veterans

The 2026 Veterans Kayak Event will take place at the Great Swamp in Paterson NY on Sunday 31 May 2026. Veterans and guests will meet at the Patterson Veteran Memorial Park, on 65 Maple Ave, Patterson, NY 12563 at 1230, and put in at the Great Swamp Canoe/Kayak Launch on Marble Road at 1300 Hours and take out at Green Chimneys on 400 Doansburg Rd, Brewster, NY 10509

FROGS

Founded in 1990, the Friends of the Great Swamp (FrOGS) is a volunteer non-profit organization made up of residents and neighbors who have been working to preserve the Great Swamp Watershed of Putnam County and Dutchess County, New York. We have a Board of Directors that meets once a month throughout the year to discuss issues of local environmental concern and to guide the activities of the organization.

The 2026 Veterans Kayak Event will take place on 25 July 2026 at the Delaware River at the Dingmans Ferry PA starting at 1000 Hours and downstream to the Eshback PA launch.

HUDSON RIVER GREENWAY WATERTRAIL

Water Trail Sites are Access Sites are places where a kayak or canoe may be launched into or taken from the water. As of February 2015, there are 116 Access Sites along the Water Trail. The ultimate goal is to have one or more Access Sites every 10 miles (or less) along both shores of the river.
